Defiant Hunter Biden on Capitol Hill: ‘My father Was Not Financially Involved in My Business’

Hunter Biden appeared on Capitol Hill when he was scheduled to testify before Congress on Wednesday, saying that he is there to publicly show how his “father was not financially involved in my business,” but he ultimately skipped the closed-door deposition, opting for a public hearing.

Congressional Republicans had threatened to hold Hunter Biden in contempt if he did not comply with their subpoena to testify Wednesday in a closed-door deposition. Hunter Biden appeared on Capitol Hill later than scheduled, as he was supposed to testify at 9:30, and he addressed the media in front of the Capitol before what he said would be a public hearing.

CNN-News18 was among the media outlets covering the First Son’s remarks:

Biden also said he is going to “make sure that the House committee’s illegitimate investigations of my family do not proceed on distortions, manipulated evidence and lies.”

In addition to defending his family, Hunter Biden said: “I’m here today to acknowledge that I’ve made mistakes in my life and wasted opportunities and privileges that I was afforded. For that, I am responsible. For that, I’m accountable and for that, I’m making amends.”

The House Republican Judiciary Committee responded on X, formerly Twitter, to Hunter Biden’s statement: “My father was not financially involved in my business, not as a practicing lawyer, not as a board member of Burisma.”

“No one believes that. Hunter Biden is welcome to come say that under oath at his deposition today,” the committee wrote.

Meanwhile, House Republicans plan on moving forward with a vote into an impeachment inquiry of President Joe Biden on Wednesday.
